The 2nd Quarter reports are in and Republican incumbents are looking strong across the board. The FEC reports for the Kansas 2nd District race have received the most media attention and have been examined in detail elsewhere. Republicans around the state have been quietly doing very well as the rest of the FEC reports show.
US Senate:
Pat Roberts, taking the 2008 race very seriously, continues to set a staggering pace with $422,005 raised in the second quarter. Spending only $172,285, he finished up the quarter with $1,972,057 to fend off the challenge of a mystery Democrat next year.
Sam Brownback's Senate campaign account is obviously not his fundraising priority right now. He raised no money for his Senate campaign account leaving a balance of $25,336 on hand. A proven fundraiser, he could easily raise enough for a run in 2010, but for now seems serious about his statement that he won't run for re-election to the Senate in 2010.
Kansas 1st District:
Jerry Moran's consistent fundraising netted $107,066 this quarter and $1,406,539 in the bank with a year and a half before the next election. No Democrat has stepped up to run against him, and it doesn't look like John Doll is going to take another shot in 2008. Doll gave his last $673.53 to the Finney County Democratic Party and closed his campaign account.
Kansas Senator Tim Huelskamp didn't raise any money during the last quarter, but didn't spend anything either, leaving $25,369 at his disposal should Jerry Moran decide to retire or seek a new job.
Kansas 3rd District:
Democrat Dennis Moore raised $162,350 during the second quarter and spent just under $50k, giving him a bankroll of $480,872. Neither Moore's fundraising nor the Statement of Candidacy filed on the 17th of July, point to an '08 retirement.
Independent Joel Balam has lined up to challenge Moore. Currently, he has .012% of Moore's funding with a $60 warchest. Lucky for Balam, "His Party is the People".
The Ahner for Congress campaign still has $2,058 on hand, but didn't raise any new money this quarter. Jeff Colyer hasn't made any trips to the bank and has $0 cash on hand. Tom Scherer has $105 to spend on his next race.
Kris Kobach has $78,247 but did indicate last week that he would not be running in 2008. Scott Schwab did not raise any money in the last quarter, but has $1830 in his account.
Kansas 4th District:
Todd Tiahrt looks healthy with $792,408 on hand after raising $214,685 and spending $47,980 for the quarter. No Democrats have declared or filed a report for the 4th District.
It is still too early to read much into the latest reports. Republican incumbents have learned their lesson from Ryun/Boyda and are taking nothing for granted. Pat Roberts seems especially reinvigorated on the campaign trail and that has been proven by his fundraising numbers.

If Kobach has $78k, why doesn't he use that money to support state party?
Kobach has to abide by contribution limits. He can't judge give all his money to the party.
Who will challenge Pat Roberts?
If you had any credibility at all you would admit that your boss hasn't turned in his homework... where is kobach's 2nd quarter federal report?
There is no contribution limits from a federal campaign account to the federal Kansas party account. He should give all 78K to save the party from the dispair its in already.
there is no reason for Senator Brownback to focus on his Senate campaign account... he term limited himself. and he keeps his word..
