The most exciting thing to come out of the Summer Meeting, and most ignored by the media, was the adoption of rules for the 2008 Presidential caucus. This caucus will put Kansas back on the national political scene. The plan adopted by the State Committee will put the caucus on February 9th making the Kansas Republican Caucus the first after the Super Tuesday primaries. There will be a minimum of one caucus per district, but the excitement is already building to have multiple caucus locations in each district. The buzz generated by the Republican caucus and a wide open Presidential race will help the party gear up for the 2008 election season.
The State Committee considered several important resolutions at last Saturday's meeting. All passed with overwhelming support. A resolution calling attention to Nancy Boyda's record of failure was submitted by the Party Staff and approved by the State Committee. Resolutions commending the hard work of our Republican legislative delegation in support of the Public Expression of Religion Act and another expressing the Kansas Republican Party's gratitude to Phill Kline's work as Attorney General were passed.
A resolution was passed by the State Committee asking the Republican National Committee to remove Kansas National Committeeman Steve Cloud, or change their bylaws allowing his removal by the Kansas State Committee. This resolution requires a response from the RNC and Insider will share that response as soon as it becomes available.
Last but not least the State Committee adopted a resolution calling on Congress and the President to complete the construction on the border fence to help stem the tide of illegal immigrants walking into the United States and improve the overall U.S. security.

So, are the conservative TRYING to get moderates to vote for Democrats? Are they TRYING to reduce the GOP to a minority status?
Cloud is the most influential moderate leadership in KS. Who thought that it was a good idea to attack him? That's stupid. The conservatives are nowhere unless they can maintain moderate support.
This used to be a great blog. Now it sucks rocks. It reads like public relations spin from Christian Morgan instead of an independent voice inside the party.
Does anyone know the final vote tally on these resolutions? I'll bet the Phill Kline and Steve Cloud resolutions didn't pass with overwhelming support.
What was the Phill Kline resolution?
I don't understand why the conservatives want to go after Steve Cloud. I understand why they'd be upset with Paul Morrison and Mark Parkinson. But, Cloud remains a strong Republican. He provides support and raises money for GOP candidates. Cloud has never supported a Democrat.
Right now, moderates are running off to join the Democrat Party all over the place. The KS GOP conservatives should be nice to their moderates if they want to keep them from becoming Democrats.
The Cloud Resolution did not pass with overwhelming support. There was a lot of opposition to it at the microphone. Conservative people who did not believe that was the right way to handle an internal dispute.
The conservatives running the party now would rather be a minority party that "stands for something" (ideologically pure) than a majority party that works with all Republicans and can influence public policy.
Lucky for the Party, they are so incompetent that they can't even do that right.
The State Party, which is just an arm of KRA now, with its loyalty committee and Steve Cloud resolution officially rendered itself as completely irrelevant just in case anyone had any doubts. Their leadership (Kobach and Morgan) have a trail of losing elections, they can't raise money and they can't run anything well. Contrary to popular myth and a few headlines, the overwhelming majority of Republicans are not turning Democrat. A very few are re-registering as independents but most are focused on future Republican election victories. KTRM and KRA are now the real parties and there is some chance that with Phill Kline and loyalty committee headlines, a lot of conservatives may be ousted in 08.
By the way, it is Nancy Hanihan and a few other Kay O'Connor cronies who have been after Cloud and won't let go. They and some of their elected lackeys like Ray Merrick don't like the fact that Cloud supports mods. Of course, he actually has donated to the party unlike this group.
Kline resolution passed unanimously.
Cloud resolution passed 81-60.
It's worth noting that Kline passed on voice vote.
There was an amendment to the Kline resolution submitted that had much more divisive language. It failed.
I don't understand why we need all these resolutions. All these things do is drive a wedge with voters. Why doesn't the party just focus on raising money to elect Republican candidates? If these people want to vote on policy matters, they should run for legislature.
Have you seen or talked with any of these people. They can't be taken out in public so running for office would scare too many kids and dogs as they went door to door.
We've become the white trash party.
That's because the only criteria for office within the GOP is being prolife
We don't care if you're uneducated, unemployed, unethical or unqualified.
All the people that actually knew anything about government and politics were thrown out long ago. All we care about is abortion.
Kobach = uneducated, unemployed, unethical or unqualified.
Come on. You're using stereotypes. Not all conservatives are lower middle class.
You're right. There are a handful who actually know better but use the far right to promote their own personal agendas - Kobach, Eric Carter, etc. Kinzer is the exception; well educated but drank too much kool-aid while working for Kay O'Connor.
Right, and all Moderates are wealthy and spend all day at the country club.
Instead of falling back on old stereotypes, you should try figure out which Republicans are working on their own agendas and which are trying to look out for the good of the party. There are a lot of good people in both camps that want to put the party first and be successful.
So what was the Cloud and Kline resolutions? Are we allowed to know, or is that a secret only for the Star Chamber to know and their henchmen?
